HP OMNIBOOK 5000 / OMNIBOOK 5500 PC - WINDOWS FOR WORKGROUPS 3.11, INSTALLING AN OSITECH JACK OF DIAMONDS TRUMPCARD

Requirements

*

HP OmniBook 5000 PC with BIOS v 1.10.00, or HP OmniBook 5500 PC with BIOS v 2.00.00 or later (version viewed during reboot).

*

Microsoft Windows for Workgroups 3.11 installed on the HP OmniBook PC.

*

Ositech Jack of Diamonds Trumpcard (PC card).

*

Jack of Diamonds software disks v 3.00 or later.

Procedure

NOTE: If Card and Socket Services are installed on the PC, the card services drivers will enable the card--otherwise, the Trumpcard MultiFunction Manager (installed during configuration) will perform the enabling.

If neither Card and Socket Service nor the MultiFunction Manager are loaded, then network drivers will enable the Jack of Diamonds as a single-function network card. Similarly, if neither Card and Socket Services nor the MultiFunction Manager are present, then OTCMOD.COM will enable the Jack of Diamonds as a single-function modem card.

1. Start Windows on the computer.

2. Insert the "Installation DOS / Windows 3.x / 95 / NT" disk into the floppy drive. From File Manager, run the "Setup.exe" file.

3. Read the welcome message and select on "Continue" to proceed with the installation.

4. At the next screen, two installation options are displayed: "Express" and "Full". Choose the "Full" option.

5. Select the choices (destination directory, components to install) at the "Custom Installation" screen. Select "Install" when done.

6. When installation of software is complete, the option to run the Trumpcard Configuration utility will come up. Choose "Configure".

7. If a message appears reporting a conflict between the number of menu items in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT, ignore it. A "Multiple Menu Items" dialog box will now appear. Specify which menu item to place the Ositech Trumpcard drivers into. Choose a section and select "OK".

8. At the next screen, choose which type of operating system desired for installed drivers. To view what settings the Jack of Diamonds will be configured to, select the "Customize" button. If changing any of the settings, select on the "Advanced" button. Choose the following settings:

*

With Card and Socket Services

Modem COM: 3

*

Without Card and Socket Services

LAN IRQ: 11

LAN Port: 300

Modem COM: 3

Modem IRQ: 7

Memory Window: D000h

9. Now click "OK" to return to the driver setup dialog box. Click "OK" to return to the "Network Setup" screen and then click "Setup".

10. Read all notices that appear and note down which files are system files are being updated. It is also a good idea to record what the backups of these files are being saved as (they will usually end with the .OT0 extension).

* If installing an ODI driver, then insert the "NetWare Client" diskette when asked.

* If installing the Windows for Workgroups NDIS or ODI driver, insert the "Network & Modem Drivers" diskette when asked. The Trumpcard configuration program will modify it for later use by the Windows network setup program. Now follow the standard Windows network installation procedure, inserting the modified Trumpcard "Network & Modem Drivers" when asked for the network card's driver disk.

* If installing any of the other drivers, follow all on-screen instructions.

11. Remove any floppy disk from the disk drive and exit Windows.

12. Manually change two lines in the AUTOEXEC.BAT file. If the section in which the Trumpcard has been installed has the commands "win" and "goto end", they must be moved after any block of commands that have been inserted by the Trumpcard installation program.

13. Now insert the Trumpcard into a free PC Card slot and turn on the computer.

14. As the computer "boots" up, choose the menu section that you have placed the Trumpcard drivers in. Now all the devices and programs that the Trumpcard installation placed in the CONFIG.SYS and AUTOEXEC.BAT files should load properly.

Depending on the type of network driver installed, viewing all available network resources should now be possible. Also, the modem portion of the Jack of Diamonds should be compatible with any communications program (the communications program should have the modem settings match those that were reported by the MultiFunction Manager during boot-up).
