AB There has been increasing interest in using the `object'
paradigm to exploit concurrent algorithms on parallel computers. 
This report reviews some of the published work in this area. 
This report goes on to consider in more detail the `actors' model
for concurrent objects, and investigates the  problems of
implementing such systems.
